This elegant Staunton pattern is sometimes referred to as the Morphy and is one of the earliest Staunton designs. These magnificent pieces are made from genuine ebony and boxwood with the boxwood having been stained to create the patina appearance of authentic vintage chessmen while looking brand new. Each and every piece is masterfully turned on the lathe one piece at a time to exacting standards while the knights are hand carved by the most skilled craftsmen in the field. The pieces are finished in a matte lacquer.This is a large set with a 4 king that has a base diameter of 1.875. The pieces are heavily weighted for superior stability on the chess board with the full set weighing an impressive 90 ounces. Pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft feel on the chess board.
